At the end of last year, I submitted a short story to the Support for Indie Authors December contest and was named one of the winners. It was refreshing to get back into short story writing, and it was validating to get the recognition that I received. If you are an indie author, I highly recommend entering their contests, which they hold regularly. Their prize consists of an advertising package for your one your books, something in high demand for indie authors. Check out the link to their page here.

Since finishing my internship with List25, I've learned a lot about writing for websites, including key words that will draw in readers and show up on Google searches, and find and properly credit non-copyrighted photos. If you are a writer looking to break into a freelance or blogging career, I highly recommend finding an internship to develop real world skills that you won't learn in any writing school or group.

Now that this internship is over, I'm starting on another one with OptinMonster. I can't provide details as to what I'll be doing, but I'm excited for the additional skills that it will teach me. In the meantime, below are links to the List25 articles that I edited. I am now credited as the author on each.

August 2018

I just began an internship with List25. This eight week program will teach me about writing articles and how to increase traffic to the site using social media, finding a target audience, and discovering trendy content. I'm learning a lot already and hope to acquire the tools and experience I need to become a freelance writer. Check them out here: https://list25.com/.

Summary: Jamie and her family have just moved into their new house on a horseshoe-shaped street surrounding a playground. There is a lot to get used to at first. Her brother, Luke, has nightmares. Her sister, Becky, acts like a baby, and all three of them miss their grandparents whose house they had lived in until now. While Jamie’s dad is at work and her mom works from home, Jamie is in charge of her brother and sister for the summer. At the playground, they are introduced to all of the neighborhood kids. Together, they teach each other their favorite games, make up new ones, go on many adventures, and end up having the best summer ever.

This book received a five star rating on LitPick and is a great summer story that inspires kids to go out and play with their friends and have adventures just outside their own front door.
